>> leigh: it has been a wild weather day. that cold front brought have cr rain to the north bay easterly y, and now heavy reins to the east and south bay locations. live doppler 7hd showing you the clearing in the north bay. heavy rain in the south bay, and east bay, roads. moderate rains towards fremont, and also some thunder and lightning just in the last 15-20 minutes. you can see fremont reporting very heavy rainfall. belmont now, starting to see some of the heavy rainfall right here, starting to move towards the wedwood city area, and this is shifting to the south. mortgage gap hill, san martin. seeing moderate rain ease up. we have a flashflood warning until 6:30 for san will you rice river near big tree and that's a

big concern. that's up at 60:00 this evening. the russian officer, flood stage 32. expected to get close to 31 feet. they might come down but that would be tomorrow morning. and mine are fluke situations on the nap a river, right now at 15 feet, and the napa river, 19 feet. so minor fluctuations on bay area rivers. how long this will stay with us? we'll take a look at the forecast. >> a wind advisory was in effect for the bay bridge, the carquinez bridge. if you didn't think the storm had a kick, take a look. this is our camera on mt. tamalpais in mill valley, pounded by rain and serious wind gusts. this storm drenched parts of the

north bay. the national weather service issued a floor nod -- flashflood warning. and stoney point road is closed. sergio quintana is live at the scene. reporter: leigh mentioned the problem of the flash-flood warnings, and the other problem is the runoff. that's what happened here, this drainage culvert was overwhelmed, and the water just basically dug up the earth under the cult vert and created this sink hole. you can see the crews just managed to install these steel plates to allow cars to drive over the road. the rushing water is causing plenty of problems for road crews. the big worry here on stoney point road is more of the pavement could collapse so traffic will be diverted. >> trying to avert any accidents

or hazard from somebody falling into a hole. reporter: the wind and rain made for treacherous driving conditions. on the 101 freeway, 580 exit, this crash force drivers down to one lane. the rains pushed creeks to the tip of their banks. and this creek is rushing for most of the day and overflowed into pen grove community park in petaluma, water barely squeezed under a bridge and rats had their sandbags ready. on c estate in downtown, the petaluma river crept up to the illinois of the road. >> this is significant. it typically doesn't get this high here, but it's a place to watch. it can go in the streets downtown. >> further up the petaluma river where flood control walls were built years ago, will brown walked his sons to a bridge to assess the water level. >> we always come down to see

how the refer is doing. takes a while to build up like this. >> this stretch is going to be opening within the next few minutes. also making pretty quick work or pg&e crews. throughout the day they had 8,000 people without power, and that has slowly decrease. right now, latest reports are 3200 customers without power in the north bay for pg&e. reporting live, sergio quintana, abc-7 news. >> ama: highway 1 at devil slide is now open. chp says an officer was able to clear the roadway quickly, buts' debris remained. traffic in both directions is running smoothly, but county officials wash this part of the coast highway is especially dangerous in proloaned rainstorms. travel will be safer with the completion of the slide tunnel next year.

>> our team storm watch coverage continues with nick smith. nick, you were there when a father and daughter had to be rescued from the water near red but -- redwood city. >> they were happy to be out of the water and dry. first responders say the heavy wind and rain made the weather and the waters completely unpredictable. look at some of the video shot earlier today. john paige and his daughter, allison, were rescued by the redwood city fire department after kayaking took a dangerous term. just after 1:00 p.m. redwood city fire received a call telling them two kayakers were strand. water rescue responded and conducted a search, and teams found the two in only minutes using try angulation. >> we just blot stuck and it would have been a long time before the tide and storms went away and we were freezing. i had my iphone and charged and in a waterproof pack.

>> he says the waters they were enjoying only minutes before quickly turned. first responders say heavy wind and rain can make the water completely unpredictable. when the tide rolled out the duo was stuck in the mud and trapped. but they had a fully charged phone. john and his daughter were wearing the proper safety gear and let others know exactly where they would be. back here live. the kayaks are still here. i had to ask john, what were your doing in the water? he says, we have kayaked before but we had no idea the tides would turn that quickly. abc-7 news. >> ama: they're lucky. all this nasty weather continues to cause airport delays. an original of 90 minutes and two hours. the delays are expected to last until 11:00 tonight. nearly 60 flights were cancelled today. no major delays at the airports

leigh is tracking the storm and will bring you an update in a few minutes. the storm brought a lot of snow to the tahoe area. skiered and boarders are thrilled. this is video from earlier today of heavenly mountain. from the resorts sports network camera. up to five feet of snow is expected in the higher elevations of the sierra nevada. here's a live look at the heavenly cam. chains are required for all vehicles except for those with four-wheel drive. >> look out for this water hazard. you're looking at you report video shot from the 1st hole at the winthrop golf club. that is when you could still see some of the tees and greens. now the club is better suited for water skiing as the court is completely underwater. it's expected to be a week before golfers can play the course again. we'd like you to share your video and photos with us, send

reporter: a strong and steady form on the sea walls of pacifica, making for treacherous conditions on the water. crabbers were immediately disappointed to find the gate the pier closed. >> my buddy and i thought we'd go crabbing, unfortunately they're not ready for us. >> and wind gusts as high as 48 miles-per-hour and a stinging hard rain didn't stop locals from taking their daily walks. >> we sort of wait and look out and see if it isn't raining so hard. then we go out when it's not raining very hard. >> have the whole pier to ourselves and the boardwalk, and we wouldn't have it any other way. >> a little to the north, not an unusual sight. the great highway's southbound lanes closed because of flooding. >> but a different reason for the closure of the northbound lanes. this broken traffic signal, dangerously dangling over the great highway. reporter: the san francisco police department blocked off the highway for two miles, and

the oranges. this batch of isolated showers and thunderstorms continues to sit there. we had some lightning strikes in the area to the east of fremont and mill milosevic -- milpitas. redwood city, the heavy rain there ten minutes ago has slipped on towards the south and we're continuing to see moderate pockets of rain. morgan hill, towards gilroy, and from north to south, the trajectory of this cold front, so they'll start to see clearing this evening. our how much rainfall? these are just preliminary. i'll be back at 6:00 with the details ones. over four inches in novato. over close to two inches in accept a -- santa rosa, oakland, inch and a quarter, and lesser amounts towards concord and livermore but you didn't see the rain until a couple hours ago. so here's a look at the

forecast. rain will be ending overnight. we gate dry day for christmas eve day and night, and then more rain for christmas day and the day after. here's a look at the front -- one more time -- just slammed right into the bay area. continuing to push towards the south. the clearing up here. we get into that tonight. here's a look at the forecast animation. you can see about 8:00 tonight, and that is when the funnel system will exit the -- this frontal system will exit. this is 5:00 a.m. monday morning. we may see a little fog in the protected valley areas. maybe mist and drizzle but dry conditions by 6:00 tomorrow night, increasing clouds. get ready for more rain beginning on tuesday. christmas morning. 7 a.m. north bay, lunchtime, near the golden gate bridge. we're going to be wet

5:00 christmas evening. get ready for the bay area to be wet. not as strong a storm system as what we saw today. winter storm warnings still up through early monday morning, lake level, two to six inches of snow expected, and highs for your monday, we'll be dry. temperatures will cool slightly, mid-to-low 50s across much of the bay area. 53 for san francisco. 55, livermore. enthose in gilroy, you may see a few lingering stray showers tomorrow morning and then look nor clearing late in the day. the accuweather sentence-day forecast. dry days for christmas eve. rain likely for all of this on christmas day. showers on wednesday. and then we dry things up thursday and friday. >> ama: at least we gate dry day tomorrow. shu is here with sports and i rarely get to say this, raiders coming off a win. >> mike: they're trying to expand on that one-game win
